GYRO at LGBT History Month

March 10, 2017

To round up LGBT history month GYRO were at Outing the past: the third national festival of LGBT history, part of our celebrations for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans History Month. #LGBTHM17…

GYRO are part of the Liverpool Mental Health Consortium’s LGBT+ sub-group and were co-presenting with Meryl from Mersey Care to talk about LGBT+ identities and mental health – picking out some key dates through history.

The day was opened by Stuart Milk who is a long time LGBT advocate and inspiration like his uncle Harvey Milk who was assassinated for being unashamedly gay in American politics and himself an absolute champion of LGBT equality.

The day was full of great events and GYRO was proud to be there representing.

Chris Porter: Gyro Worker (LGBTQIA+) at YPAS said:

“It is vital that the youth narrative is not lost when talking about LGBT history as we continue to fight for LGBT+ equality and rights that were hard won!”

Throughout LGBTHM17 GYRO and THE Action Youth were out delivering ‘Gender Identity’ training to professionals, LGBT+ Awareness Training in schools and using The Proud Trust LGBT History Month pack in the LGBT groups in YPAS. We had a very busy LGBT History Month, learned a lot and are already looking forward to our next project of building a physical local time line for display in YPAS.
