Rainbow Flag Award

THE RAINBOW FLAG AWARD IS DESIGNED AROUND YOU

What is the Rainbow Flag Award?

Some schemes dictate to schools what they should do to become LGBT+ inclusive. We believe all schools are different, and, with a bit of support, you are best placed to identify the areas you are good at, and the areas you need support to improve on. True LGBT+ inclusion will only be successful and meaningful, if it is led collectively by you, your students, your staff teams, and your communities.

It is possible to gain a Rainbow Flag Award in an one year. Once gained, it is valid for a further two years (at no extra cost), with options for renewal available to you at the end of the three-year cycle.

The cost price includes the key elements to start you on your journey, then we help you identify what other services your organisation will need to achieve positive and meaningful LGBT+ inclusion.

How does it work?

Working around the academic year, the Rainbow Flag Award requires you take a positive whole-school approach to LGBT+ inclusion, focusing on six areas of the school:

Through a year-long process of self-assessment and ongoing monitoring and feedback, schools have access to a variety of resources and interventions, helping them meet the standards in each of the Rainbow Flag Award areas.

What does it cost and what is the commitment?

£795* for primary and other small schools
£995* for secondary schools
£1295* for independent schools

What this buys you from your Rainbow Flag Award delivery organisation:

  • Two places on starter LGBT+ inclusion training (for best results, one of these places should be taken by a member of your SLT)
  • Access to the Members Area of this website, containing a Rainbow Flag Award Handbook, detailed information of the training, services, resources and products available from your Rainbow Flag Award delivery organisation as well as some other starter resources and/or posters.
  • A “Developing Effective LGBT+ Inclusive Policies” guide.
  • Access to LGBT+ positive classroom resources.
  • Review of your work with detailed feedback in each section submitted.

Supporting Local

While the Rainbow Flag Award is a national framework, delivery is by LGBT+ organisations working with LGBT+ communities in your local area. YPAS has a 50+ year history of working with LGBT+ young people in Merseyside. This means that the content of any training will be up to date and relevant, with the needs and experiences of LGBT+ young people from across Merseyside at the heart of delivery. Any monies generated from this scheme will help fund our vital work with LGBT+ young people locally.
