FAQs
How do you access the service?
+
A referral can be made by a professional using the domestic abuse referral form that can be requested from our clinical administration team.
Do my parents need to know that I am having sessions?
+
If you are over 14 years of age then we do not have to inform your parents unless there is a safeguarding concern during therapy.
What happens on my first visit?
+
On your first visit, you will meet and get to know your therapist. You will talk about what you need and how therapy can help you. You are welcome to bring another person for support to the first session. Your Therapist will explain how we can support you and keep you safe, this is called Confidentiality.
Your Therapy sessions will remain confidential unless YPAS is concerned about your safety and that of others, but we will make sure you are fully informed of the limits to confidentiality in your first session. This is called Contracting because all Therapy sessions at YPAS are voluntary and free of charge.
Do I have to talk about what I witnessed?
+
No, the sessions are led by you, so we work on whatever you feel you need to focus on.
How many sessions can I have?
+
You will receive an assessment session and 8 therapy sessions. However, it may be that you will not need all sessions or you may require some additional sessions. This will be discussed with your therapist during your sessions.
How long will I wait for sessions?
+
We are unable to give a specific time as this will depend on current demand and availability of therapists.
Are all the therapists qualified?
+
All YPAS therapists are qualified and either BACP Accredited (or working towards) and HCPC registered. We also have some trainee therapists in the team.
All YPAS Therapists adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework – you can read this here https://www.bacp.co.uk/media/3103/bacp-ethical-framework-for-the-counselling-professions-2018.pdf
